Pietro Gussalli Beretta was born in Brescia, Italy on February 28, 1962, the fifteenth generation of the homonymous industrial dynasty engaged in the manufacture of small arms since 1526.
Together with his father Ugo and his brother Franco, they direct the Beretta Group. The ability to combine research, technology and innovation with tradition and craftsmanship has made the Group one of the most famous Italian brands in the world.
After graduating in Economics, Pietro chose to join the family business to follow financial and management control. After a few years he switched to strategic planning and development of the entire Group and in 1996, after having re-purchased the minority share from a Belgian industrial partner, led corporate restructuring through the creation of the parent company Beretta Holding, of which he has been Executive Vice-President untill June 2015 when he was appointed President and CEO.
Beretta Holding adopted a policy of gradual internationalization aimed at the direct presence in the most important markets, expanding at the same time the range of products offered, and this through a series of strategic acquisitions around the world, including Britain, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Turkey, Canada, United States, China, Australia, and New Zealand.
Particularly significant is the growth achieved in the sectors connected to the core business , with an offer that today ranges from optics to outdoor clothing and accessories for the commerial and military market. The Group is now a true global player with a presence, also for manufacturing in all five continents, more than 30 companies that employ about 3,000 people and a turnover of more than EUR 600 million, 90% of which is made outside of Italy.
In 2009 he married Gretchen Alexander Harnischfeger. Gretchen is American and graduated from Princeton and Yale with a master in architecture. In Italy she is known for her restoration project of the properties of Assicurazioni Generali in Piazza San Marco in Venice and for her participation in the activities of the Guggenheim in Venice.
She comes from an old American family who in 1820 founded the Harnischfeger Industries, a manufacturer of equipment for working in mines, still quoted on Wall Street. Together they have a daughter, Maria Teresa.
In addition to his commitment in Beretta Holding and the numerous positions held in various Beretta Group companies worldwide, Pietro Gussalli Beretta also operates outside of the family business. He is currently Chairman of the Board of UBI Banca International SA and Vice President and member of the Executive Committee of Banco di Brescia SpA.
In the recent past he was the President of the Board of SBS Leasing SpA (now UBI Leasing SpA) and member of the Supervisory Board of UBI Banca SpA.
Pietro Gussalli Beretta is also a member of the Council for Relations between Italy and the United States (CONSIUSA), the Henokiens; the international association of families of entrepreneurs with over two centuries of activity and of the Italian Association of Family Owned Businesses (AIDAF).
His numerous work commitments led him to spend much of his time abroad, without neglecting his passions, among which are hunting, collecting modern and oriental art, the opera and especially his favorite—travelling the world and visiting new places.
